The asteroid Eros |

Plan view made with BMP2ter |

The NEAR (Near Asteroid Rendezvous) vehicle of NASA has made a close encounter with
the asteroid Eros. The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous mission With the help of the high detailed photographs made, the converter BMP2ter, the plugin Firmament and the landscape generator Terragen I was be able to make 'eye-level' renders of this 33km large asteroid. The problem making terrainfiles from photographs are the effects of the shadows and the reflection of the different minerals of Eros. There are already elevation models available but so far they don't show much detail. More detailed elevation models are expected around the summer of 2001. So: these are just artist 'impressions' which give a feeling like being there where nobody has gone before... Do you wanna know how I made them? Just mail me... |
